A record of 2026

2026 – Week 14

Monday: Was awake late the night before, so a late start. Had a grocery delivery, then trimmed the hedges in the courtyard. Spent the evening babysitting downloads for Hannah, and working on photo processing.

The mains water was out overnight.

Tuesday: A meh day, spent a lot of it angsting over the email I would have to write to the optometrist regarding my new sunglasses.

Wednesday: Optometrist replied, seems chill enough. Did some photo processing. Jeez I’ve put on weight, 55kg. Updated iPhone to iOS 18.7.7.

Thursday: Optometrist let me know they were closed Friday, when I had intended to drop off the glasses… cause it’s Good Friday, which I forgot about. He’s going to be on eave as well, so we wait until the 13th to get the process back underway. I woke up really unwell with medication side effects at 11am, went back to sleep and got up at 2:30pm. Had a fragile day all day. Weigh 54.4. Updated iPad to iPadOS 18.7.7. Hannah bought some 4k bluray films to bring up for the weekend. Bought a new bottle of whisky, and a case of beer.

Friday: Quiet day, spent time processing photos, listening to tunes, cleaning up cables on my new desk.

Saturday: Was a bit worse for wear after the previous night’s groovin’ to tunes (and whisky). Did a bunch of tidying up.

Sunday: Hannah arrived for a few days. Made chicken wings.

2026 – Week 13

Monday: Woke up early, and under-rested, went back to sleep and slept till around midday. Received email that my new licence photo upload was accepted, and had to decide if i was still going to go through with Tuesday’s doctor’s meeting for a medical certificate, given i wasn’t required to submit one. Did a load of laundry, towels etc. Went for a bike ride. Hung the two framed Grickle prints Hannah had bought me.

Tuesday: Running around for a lot of things today; doctor’s appointment, then to storage to pick up my studio chair up, then over to supermarket to try to find some Rocket, then home, then over to get my new sunglasses adjusted, then over to another supermarket to look for Rocket, where they didn’t have the one I wanted.

Went for a bike ride.

My contact from Sydney Tools called to apologise for the situation with the toolbox, and touch base with progress to obtain a new toolbox, which he’s succeeded in doing.

Had a new bit of kit arrive, a HDMI to USB-C video digitiser that can plug in to an iPad, and then the video stream can be watched on the iPad.

Wednesday: Had a solid night’s sleep, spent the day doing admin stuff.

Thursday: A pretty bad day; couldn’t sleep due to impotent outrage over my glasses not having perfect geometry. Walked up the street to buy some Rocket. Spent some of the evening looking for the blank lenses from my new glasses, which seem to be missing.

Friday: it was a quiet, at home sort of day. I did some laundry, put a load of dishes on, played some games with Hannah. The big news, was Lindberg, my glasses maker getting back to me, and offering me a new set of frames to replace the ones I have, as they agree there’s something “off” about the way they look.

Saturday: Tourists staying pulled the entire pool cleaner vacuum out of the pool. Did some photo adjustment work on Derby Daze, & played Halo with Hannah in the evening. Couldn’t sleep, so I rewrote my bio at four in the morning.

Sunday: Bit of a meh day. Went through a garbage bag to see if I could find something, but it wasn’t there. Did a bit of photo processing. Signed off on my tax return.

2026 – Week 12

Monday: toolbox delivery, what was supposed to be a drop off and pickup in one event turned into a pickup, then a drop off  in a separate trip. The box that was dropped off, was just as badly damaged as the one I was returning. They’d clearly sent a floor-stock demonstrator, rather than getting a fresh boxed, new item. To top it off, the guy who’d been handling things had to go home early for a family emergency, so he wasn’t there to take my call.

Had a productive phone call with Transport & Main Roads, who handle drivers licences, trying to get them to figure out a way for me to do a drivers licence photo without going in to a service centre.

Tuesday: Drove back to Noosa. All daytime driving, with my new glasses. It was a pretty nice easy run, the worst traffic was arriving back in Noosaville, at the end of Noosa-Eumundi road.

Wednesday: Woke up with a eye-crushing headache. Had a bit of a write off day. Really used my standing desk in seriousness for the first time though, and it’s properly nice. Went for a bike ride, and managed my full 12km route. Felt a bit wrecked by the end, but honestly, better than I’d thought I would be.

Thursday: Walked up to the shops to check the postbox, and pick up some Rocket at the supermarket. Walking feels… odd. Something to do with my neurology, I suspect. Wearing a mask, and my new round sunglasses, it was a bit…

It started to sprinkle with rain as I reached my street on the way home, I fiddled with trying to get an umbrella out of my bag and unfurled. A gentle drizzle came down as I walked up the driveway, to become a pounding torrent the moment I stepped under cover.

I wrote up a blog post about my experience (so far) with the toolbox.

Friday: Had a groceries delivery. Went for a bike ride, and did the absolute full course, including the bit I’d been avoiding because of a magpie. Arrived home to find the guy from Sydney Tools had emailed me back to express an apology for what happened with the toolbox.

Saturday: Had beers by the river with Cam. Played some Left 4 Dead with Hannah in the evening.

Sunday: Had a bad night’s sleep with feet hurting, and back hurting. Spent most of the day shuffling around with deep fatigue. Most of the day was spent trying to set up a photo shoot for a new ID photo for my driver’s licence. Added to that, printing the forms, filling in all the forms, etc.

2026 – Week 11

Monday: Rain continued to bucket down, went to storage to try to get bits and pieces to prepare for my desk.

Tuesday: Waiting for new desk to be delivered, but it never showed up. The replacement power PCB for my iPad stand turned up, so I installed it, and everything seems to be working well.

Wednesday: The desk arrived, and the day was spent disassembling the old desk, unwiring everything, and then starting the construction on the new desk. I gave up after becoming exhausted.

Thursday: Picked up my new sunglasses, and my oh my they’re amazing. Finished constructing the desk, ready to finish wiring it up.

Friday: Wired up the desk, and it’s amazing. Had to remake some timber pieces, line some others with rubber, but it all went magnificently.

Saturday: Drove to Brisbane, had to get petrol on the way before I left. Had a long drive with my new glasses, they’re so good :)

Sunday: Put the wheels on the toolbox that is being returned, and moved it down to the lower level of the garage, so as to be most easily accessed tomorrow, when the courier delivers it. Ordered pizza, and had wine.

2026 – Week 10

Monday: Did some work at storage, bought a bunch of new socks & underwear; did a cleanout of my older socks & pants, did a couple of loads of laundry. Booked my emergency MRI for Thursday.

Tuesday: Spoke to Amazon about some stuff that didn’t arrive, and they’re finally issuing me a refund for non-delivery of half the order. Chatted to a friend about standing desks. Decided I would purchase a standing desk. Did some more work at storage.

Wednesday: Did laundry, spoke to the practice where I get MRI scanning done, and they’ve managed to get the illuminated ceiling mural isolated to a switch, so it can be deactivated, making the room dark. Oh yeah, and I spent two grand on a powered standing desk.

Thursday: MRI scan. Had a micro-doze while in the scanner. Everything went well. Had a notification that my desk was being prepared to ship.

Friday: Quiet day, went over to storage to see how it looked now that everything has been compacted in. Honestly with all the extra stuff from the second storeroom loaded in, it kindof feels like there’s more usable space.

Saturday: Slept long and solid so i didn’t get up until about 1pm. It was raining on and off all day, so the day was a bit of a write off. Played games with Hannah in the evening.

Sunday: What did I do? It rained, constantly, more or less all day. I cleaned the shower, and did some more work processing photos for Derby Daze Volume 1 (second ed).

2026 – Week 9

Monday: Did some work at storage. Did a bunch of photo processing in the evening.

Tuesday: Did more work at storage.

Wednesday: Received a call from my neurologist regarding my foot. Then went over to storage and did.   some more tidying. Broke down two trolleys, and have comr to a pretty clear realisation that I should be able to get a second extra set of shelves into the space, which should allow us to close down the second storeroom entirely.

Thursday: Went for a fitting for my new glasses frames, I’m suspecting the raw titanium might end up looking a bit fine, but we’ll see.

Friday: Did some work over at storage, had a shopping delivery.

Saturday: More storage work.

Sunday: More storage work.

2026 – Week 8

Monday: Toolbox was delivered, and all my worst fears came to pass; it arrived damaged. A forklift’s tynes have been rammed into the box, and dented it in two places, including going through the powder coating.

Had chicken wings for dinner.

Tuesday: Spoke to the guy I had organised the toolbox through, and he was very apologetic. We’re trying to figure out how to get the box exchanged. Drove back up to Noosa.

Wednesday: A down day from medicating. Roasted a large batch of sweet potato.

Thursday: Doctor’s appointment; Dr. thinks my foot issue is neurological, which is a worry.

Friday: Ordered shaving supplies in the wee hours of the morning. Made a quiche after the shopping order arrived and I discovered I had more eggs than I needed.

Saturday: Foot still being a real issue. Spent the day doing not a lot, had a couple of good gaming & booze sessions with Hannah.

Sunday: Quiet day with sore foot. Did some domestic suff, and looked at standing desks.

2026 – Week 7

Monday: Went to look at a house. It’s potentially good, but it’s a long way from here, and all the roads around it are really narrow and without shoulders / verges so I don’t know how I could cycle.

Tuesday: Twisting with rage at footage of protestors being beaten by police in Sydney. My right foor continues to explode with pain as the tapped nerve causes problems.

Wednesday: Drove down to Coolum, and picked up the cut-to-size steel I ordered. Then went over to storage, and put a dropsheet over the gold sculpture, and moved two shelving units in front of it.

Thursday: Had my first decent night’s sleep in ages. Washed the car.

Friday: Replaced my car’s windscreen wipers, and the new ones are actually good. Drove down to this house again, and we think it’s a no. The area just isn’t going to be doable, in terms of cycling, which is actually important.

Saturday: Drove down to Brisbane, had pizza with Hannah.

Sunday: Moved furniture from Hannah’s garage to the apartment, and set up new shelving with existing steel stockpile.

2026 – Week 6

Monday: More dongles. Amazon delivery driver left the packet on the front wall of the building, and it disappeared behind the bins. Thought it had been stolen. Eventually found it after pulling all the bins out. I now have three of the UGreen display adapters. They’re much better than the old Lindy ones. Here’s hoping they prove all my computer issues were just a hardware thing. The system certainly woke up well using just the one, here’s hoping three are better.

Tuesday: Drove down to Kunda Park to look at a tool box that I’ll have delivered to Hannah’s place, to store all my gear. I needed to get the measurements of the baseplates for the castors, so I could fabricate bolt-compatible legs, with jacking feet, so it could be put on a sloping floor. Had a burger for dinner, felt stuffed afterwards, but the gluten-free bun didn’t have the gas-bloat feeling. I think I’m making progress there.

Wednesday: A post-medication day, spent on admin. Called up the courier company Amazon uses to double check that they’re not going to be delivering to the wall out the. front of the property. Called the skin cancer clinic to confirm my appointment. Called the tool company to check if they could deliver the tool box to Hannah’s on the day I can be there, but the person I needed to speak to was busy.

Thursday: Visit to the skin cancer clinic for annual skin check. It’s the one place I take my mask off indoors, but the practitioner wore the type I asked him to wear. Then off to have a hand X-ray to see if we can get a good enough image that we can use it to monitor the cyst in my finger bone.

Friday: Ordered the Daytona toolbox. Ordered the levelling feet for the toolbox. Ordered the flat steel bar, and steel pipe (into which the thread for the levelling feet will fit) to fabricate legs to replace the castors on the toolbox.

Saturday: A bit of a wipeout as I was woken stupidly early by a guy next door using leaf blowers all day. Found a new house for sale that looks interesting – it’s an hour or so further south of us, which would be a bit of a pill in that we’d be leaving Noosa, we kind of get spoiled by being here next to the river, but I don’t really make much use of it any more. It would be significantly closer to Hannah, which would make the drive easier for both of us.

One down side, it doesn’t appear to have much in the way of cycling path options – the roads are fairly narrow, which is iffy, given how quiet they could be. There aren’t really any viable circuits I can ride, as far as I can see. from an initial look.

Sunday: Went over to storage, tidied a couple of things, and photographed C45C4D3 with its completed frame.

2026 – Week 5

Monday: Lazed in the pool. Watched Ford Vs’ Ferrari, ate a bunch of chicken wings.

Tuesday: Quiet day, while Hannah worked from the dining table.

Wednesday: Went to an optometrists and bought the glasses I’ve been thinking about all this time. Called Devondale to chat to them about how all the milk from a particular batch smells off.

Thursday: chatting to Devondale, confirming all the details, filing issue with Woolworths about the milk. Filing  health aletr with Qld government. Thursday night I reinstalled macOS on my workstation, to try to solve all the problems I’ve been having.

I’m not sure it’s doing that. What I’m hoping to fix is desktop wallpaper being reset, and displays not being found on wake from sleep. Also, the clusterfuck of instability I’ve been experiencing.

Friday: testing the update, it’s been feeling brittle. I updated SwitchResX, and removed Lunar from the mix. I ordered a stupidly expensive $300 displayport hotplug maintainer to0 see if it will deal with the slow wakeup of the main display. Also ordered a new UGreen TB to Displayport adapter, in case the Lindy ones I have simply aren’t any good.

Saturday: the new TB to DP adapter arrived. it’s so much more nicely made than the ones I had, I ordered two more. Pretty quiet day. Played video games in the evening.

Sunday: the TB to DP adapter appears to be doing its job. Huzzah!
