A record of 2026

2026 – Week 7

Monday: Went to look at a house. It’s potentially good, but it’s a long way from here, and all the roads around it are really narrow and without shoulders / verges so I don’t know how I could cycle.

Tuesday: Twisting with rage at footage of protestors being beaten by police in Sydney. My right foor continues to explode with pain as the tapped nerve causes problems.

Wednesday: Drove down to Coolum, and picked up the cut-to-size steel I ordered. Then went over to storage, and put a dropsheet over the gold sculpture, and moved two shelving units in front of it.

Thursday: Had my first decent night’s sleep in ages. Washed the car.

Friday: Replaced my car’s windscreen wipers, and the new ones are actually good. Drove down to this house again, and we think it’s a no. The area just isn’t going to be doable, in terms of cycling, which is actually important.

Saturday: Drove down to Brisbane, had pizza with Hannah.

Sunday: Moved furniture from Hannah’s garage to the apartment, and set up new shelving with existing steel stockpile.

2026 – Week 6

Monday: More dongles. Amazon delivery driver left the packet on the front wall of the building, and it disappeared behind the bins. Thought it had been stolen. Eventually found it after pulling all the bins out. I now have three of the UGreen display adapters. They’re much better than the old Lindy ones. Here’s hoping they prove all my computer issues were just a hardware thing. The system certainly woke up well using just the one, here’s hoping three are better.

Tuesday: Drove down to Kunda Park to look at a tool box that I’ll have delivered to Hannah’s place, to store all my gear. I needed to get the measurements of the baseplates for the castors, so I could fabricate bolt-compatible legs, with jacking feet, so it could be put on a sloping floor. Had a burger for dinner, felt stuffed afterwards, but the gluten-free bun didn’t have the gas-bloat feeling. I think I’m making progress there.

Wednesday: A post-medication day, spent on admin. Called up the courier company Amazon uses to double check that they’re not going to be delivering to the wall out the. front of the property. Called the skin cancer clinic to confirm my appointment. Called the tool company to check if they could deliver the tool box to Hannah’s on the day I can be there, but the person I needed to speak to was busy.

Thursday: Visit to the skin cancer clinic for annual skin check. It’s the one place I take my mask off indoors, but the practitioner wore the type I asked him to wear. Then off to have a hand X-ray to see if we can get a good enough image that we can use it to monitor the cyst in my finger bone.

Friday: Ordered the Daytona toolbox. Ordered the levelling feet for the toolbox. Ordered the flat steel bar, and steel pipe (into which the thread for the levelling feet will fit) to fabricate legs to replace the castors on the toolbox.

Saturday: A bit of a wipeout as I was woken stupidly early by a guy next door using leaf blowers all day. Found a new house for sale that looks interesting – it’s an hour or so further south of us, which would be a bit of a pill in that we’d be leaving Noosa, we kind of get spoiled by being here next to the river, but I don’t really make much use of it any more. It would be significantly closer to Hannah, which would make the drive easier for both of us.

One down side, it doesn’t appear to have much in the way of cycling path options – the roads are fairly narrow, which is iffy, given how quiet they could be. There aren’t really any viable circuits I can ride, as far as I can see. from an initial look.

Sunday: Went over to storage, tidied a couple of things, and photographed C45C4D3 with its completed frame.

2026 – Week 5

Monday: Lazed in the pool. Watched Ford Vs’ Ferrari, ate a bunch of chicken wings.

Tuesday: Quiet day, while Hannah worked from the dining table.

Wednesday: Went to an optometrists and bought the glasses I’ve been thinking about all this time. Called Devondale to chat to them about how all the milk from a particular batch smells off.

Thursday: chatting to Devondale, confirming all the details, filing issue with Woolworths about the milk. Filing  health aletr with Qld government. Thursday night I reinstalled macOS on my workstation, to try to solve all the problems I’ve been having.

I’m not sure it’s doing that. What I’m hoping to fix is desktop wallpaper being reset, and displays not being found on wake from sleep. Also, the clusterfuck of instability I’ve been experiencing.

Friday: testing the update, it’s been feeling brittle. I updated SwitchResX, and removed Lunar from the mix. I ordered a stupidly expensive $300 displayport hotplug maintainer to0 see if it will deal with the slow wakeup of the main display. Also ordered a new UGreen TB to Displayport adapter, in case the Lindy ones I have simply aren’t any good.

Saturday: the new TB to DP adapter arrived. it’s so much more nicely made than the ones I had, I ordered two more. Pretty quiet day. Played video games in the evening.

Sunday: the TB to DP adapter appears to be doing its job. Huzzah!

2026 – Week 4

Monday: I was going to go to Brisbane with all the stuff, but felt really unwell after breakfast, so went back to bed.

Tuesday: Took all the stuff down to Brisbane, things went well, it was an easier trip than the last time. Only snag was the new shelves I bought aren’t compatible with the old ones, so I had to buy anther two sets of shelves, and I’ll replace the old ones entirely.

Wednesday: Pretty flat post-medication day at home. Persistent headache.

Thursday: Flat still, working on photos in Capture One.

Friday: Doctor’s appointment, discussed surgeon’s visit last week. Doctor seemed a little unimpressed with the surgeon’s take on things.

Saturday: Quiet day, Hannah arrived for the weekend. Had sashimi and hot dogs for dinner. Made the mistake of a martini on too little food, and was wrecked fora couple for hours, but felt better later on.

Sunday: Midday / late breakfast beers in the pool, then a Facetime call with Allie & Gareth. Working on Hannah’s laptop to upgrade it to a newer operating system.

2026 – Week 3

I saw out last week setting all my facebook posts to private, closing down still further the past I had. I saw something, my sister’s formerly deactivated account with an active profile picture again, but not friends with me.

It puts a perspective on things. I put my hand out over and over to stay in contact with my brother and sister, and they’ve shown no interest in reciprocating.

Monday: Some admin and research, getting in touch with the bolt people to get the 10 extra washers they shorted me. Spoke to Pinnacle hardware about a shelving unit that’s out of stock at Bunnings, and whether they thought the Bunnings home branded Craftright version’s shelves would be compatible.

Then bought two sets of the Craftright shelves and a couple of dollies.

Tuesday: It was bucketing down with rain all day, but I had to go to Bunnings to pick up the shelves and dollies. Of course the rain eased off once I was at storage to drop them off, having had to walk out to the car with them at the store, with no covered parking.

One I was at storage, and had unloaded the gear, I was able to put the finishing touches on the frame for C45C4D3. So that’s done, my big 2025 project completed.

Wednesday: Groceries delivery. Did a bunch of video processing for bike helmetcam videos, reorganising files on disk, and running a large backup set.

Thursday: Appointment with a hand surgeon. He was an hour late for the appointment, and I was paying $300 ($220 out of pocket) 25 minutes later. According to him, a problem I have is a cyst in my finger bone. Allegedly if it was malignant (assuming it dates from when the injury happened) I would be “long dead by now”. Not the greatest bedside manner. I’m going to see my doctor next week to discuss the implications, but the surgeon didn’t really give me a clear idea of what the experience I currently have is or whether the surgery he recommends (removing the cyst, and a bone graft) will solve it.

I took some time to install macOS to the internal drive on my Mac Pro, as an emergency backup in case it gets to a state where it refuses to boot from it’s NVME PCI storage.

Friday: six-monthy blood testing. rest of the afternoon is pretty chill since you can’t left heavy objects afterwards. Had to order a new controller cable or my Xbox’s controller, as the old one was haing constant disconnection issues, and they stop happening using my B&O cable.

Saturday: Went over to storage with my air compressor, which is going down to Brisbane on Monday.

Sunday: Over at storage again, organising all the stuff I want to take down to Brisbane on Monday.

2026 – Week 2

Monday: Finding out the bolt company is closed.

Tuesday: Went to storage, to adjust the circuit boards on the top of the sculpture. Realised I needed small spanners , wrenches, went home to pick them up, went back to storage, then had the cordless drill die so had to come back home with the circuit board to use the corded drill.

Wednesday: Trying to figure out cabinets for Hannah’s garage, and I’ve settled on the larger one, on the basis that it’s a more compact cabinet. Also, I had to buy a new cordless driver / drill / hammer drill.

Thursday: Over to storage, modifying circuit boards for C45C4D3 with the new cordless drill. Exhausted to the point of jelly limbs by an hour’s work. Worrying that I’m so fatigued so easily, hopefully it’s a medication issue, not a me issue.

Friday: Phone calls, working out logistics of having the tool chest delivered to Hannah’s place. Realised I’d double-booked my hand surgeon and skin check appointments, so had to reschedule the skin check to February.

Saturday: Researching shelving units, primarily.

Sunday: went over to storage, and finished securing the final moved circuit board on C45C4D3. It’s all ended out quite nice, so photographing the finished project will look correct. In the next week I have to sort out the 10 missing washers, though.

2026 – Week 1

New year!

Monday: quiet day, took the bandsaw out to the garage, and cut through the galvanised 20mm threaded rod which forms the crossmembers for C45C4D3.

Tuesday: Disaster. Went over to storage to do some assembly on the sculpture frame, only to discover that it didn’t fit properly, and it’s my fault. I didn’t measure the sculpture itself correctly, and so the top frame is a few centimetres too short. It’s OK, the roll cage still works, it just has a slight overlap with the topmost circuit board.

I think I’m going to move those circuit boards downwards, to avoid tangling with the roll cage.

Wednesday: Hannah arrived to visit, we had Second Christmas for New Years Eve, and almost had the pudding ruined when it boiled dry in the steamer. Thankfully it turned out pretty well:

Thursday: New Years Day, a lazy one, drinks in the pool followed by hotdogs, martinis and Deathstalker 2 for dinner. The hotdogs were due to a grocery mixup, that saw us receive half of someone else’s shopping order.

Friday: We went over to storage, and moved C45C4D3 off the milk crates, and onto its frame legs, put the bottom crossbar through, and bolted up the bottom corners. It’s looking good:

Saturday: Afternoon beers by the river with Cameron. That evening, Bread & Butter pudding was made:

Sunday: Back over to storage, to attempt to finish off the sculpture, only to discover I’d been supplied too few of one component, and too many of another. Chicken wings for dinner, before Hannah had to head off home.
